State and national Awards And recognition
Rebuilding Together Greater Florida
Tampa Bay Realtor® Wins Spirit of Advocacy Award.
Presented at the state association’s recent annual Convention & Trade Expo, the Spirit of Advocacy Award honors a Realtor who has demonstrated excellence in advocacy at the local, state, national, and community levels over their lifetime.
A Realtor since 1988 and past president of GTR, Johnson has spent more than three decades championing private property rights, Realtor engagement, and advocating for issues that shape the profession.
At the state level, Johnson has been a Florida Realtors state key contact since 1994, attended every Great American Realtor Day (GARD) in Tallahassee for decades, and served on or chaired nearly every Florida Realtors political committee or forum, with more than 162 committee appointments. In 2022, after successfully battling breast cancer, she launched a plan to provide free early detection screenings for members at Florida Realtors meetings – a service that has already saved lives.
Beyond the profession, Johnson’s community service includes leading large-scale volunteer projects as president of Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay, expanding the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s wellness clinic from 900 square feet to 11,000 square feet, founding Florida Big Dog Rescue, and serving on the Florida State Veterinary Medical Board since 2012.
Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay’s (RTTB) mission is to assist low-income homeowners, especially senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, by providing necessary repairs to their properties free of charge. The organization was averaging 30 home upgrades per year.
In 2009 as President of RTTB, I didn’t want to do the typical 30 homes I wanted to make a significant change in people’s lives.
So we selected an entire blighted neighborhood in West Tampa to rebuild. We brought together more than 800 volunteers and partnered with the NFL to repair 72 homes. Since Tampa was host to the Superbowl, we also had many NFL players and cheerleaders volunteer as well.
We even got the city council and county commission to install special curbing on the busy streets to make it safe for the kids to be outside without the danger of being hit by cars.
We even asked Olin Mott Tires to help, and they donated new tires for the homeowner’s cars. We provided new neighborhood landscaping to make it more attractive. We were even able to offer free vaccines, microchips and spay/neuter services for their pets. What an amazing opportunity this was!!!
BREAST CANCER AND EARLY DETECTION:
REALTOR ASSOCIATION INVOLVEMENT:
A few years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was suggested I wait 6 months and come back for more tests. There was no way I was going to wait to see if it had spread. I requested a second opinion at Moffitt Cancer Center and within 2 weeks my diagnosis was confirmed and surgery was scheduled. After a 7-hour surgery and 7 days hospitalized, I am now cancer free with exams every 6 months to make sure I stay that way.
Today I sit on the Moffitt Early Detection Executive Board. Knowing my fellow Realtors are all independent contractors, with little to no affordable health insurance, I felt there had to be a way our Florida Realtors Association could help. I went to Leadership and proposed a 5 year plan to include free early detection awareness education and the opportunity for free mammograms at our 2 annual conferences.
2026 will be our third year and we have already saved lives of those that would have never known they had cancer. For this opportunity I am grateful.
When I started my career, I immediately joined our local Realtor association’s legislative committee. The purpose of the committee was to protect private property rights with local, state and national lawmakers. I short order, I knew this was going to be one of my passions.
Through the years I have become a respected national and statewide voice for all property owners. Meeting with legislators on a regular basis to make sure they are informed on the state of the real estate market and what they can (and should) do to help.
Through multiple national and state administrations, we remain consistent with our private property rights mission and message.
One thing you’ll learn about me is I tell it like it is, and the legislators know it.
As a double Hall of Fame member of the non-partisan Realtor Political Action Committee, the largest trade association in the world, with over 1.6 million members. We are the “Realtor Party” when working with legislators of all political persuasions.
When it comes to property rights, trust me when I say we are involved in every aspect, working hard to keep you and your property safe.
ANIMAL ADVOCACY
ANYTHING ELSE?
I have a passion for those that can’t speak for themselves, and I take that responsibility very seriously.
In 2005, we started one of the largest animal rescues in Florida, getting more than 3,600 animals out of shelters and into loving homes. Before rescue, I had the pleasure of representing the USA on three K9 precision work world teams. It takes a lot of patience to work in this area as it take up to three years to train one of these beautiful dog to compete internationally.
My other animal service work includes:
- Six years on the Hillsborough County Animal Advisory Board.
- Past President of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay for 2 terms
- 12 years (2012-Present) as a Board Member Florida State Veterinary Medical Board
Through my real estate work, I have also had the opportunity to work regularly with Florida State legislators to help pass animal abuse legislation (when no one thought it was possible! )
This all comes so naturally to me and I love everything that I do and it all just kind of works together. I love using my expertise in making things happen for all in need, both two legged and four.
